The WTO-TBT (World Trade Organization -Technical Barriers to Trade) information center has been operated by the Standardization Administration from the beginning of 2002. It serves as the Inquiry Point between the State of Israel and the WTO in all matters regarding the transfer of information on technical regulations under the TBT Agreement. The Center has the following tasks:
· Notification to the WTO Secretariat in Geneva of mandatory requirements (mandatory standards, revisions of mandatory standards, and technical regulations) in Israel, that might represent non tariff barriers (NTB) to trade.
· Response to individual queries from the WTO Secretariat or foreign manufacturers/importers about Israel’s technical requirements.
· Treatment of announcements received from the WTO Secretariat on mandatory technical requirements in foreign countries that represent potential trade barriers to exports from Israel: receipt of the announcements and their distribution to manufacturing and exporting organizations.
· Collection of objections from Israeli exporters, preparation of comments and reservations in an official reply for transmission to the WTO.
· Supplying technical information to exporters on mandatory requirements in the importing countries.
· The majority of the above tasks are obligations undertaken by Israel as a member of WTO.
