The Fund for Promoting Overseas Marketing

Objectives of the Fund for Promoting Overseas Marketing

Sharing the risks borne by exporters in building marketing infrastructures
for the purpose of increasing exports.

Stimulating marketing innovations and the utilization of marketing tools,
primarily among small, new businesses.

The Fund assists exporters planning to expand their marketing operations
abroad and who have appropriate marketing strategies. The Fund will
support a comprehensive business plan once it is convinced that such a
plan will lead to a breakthrough in exports and that it involves innovative
marketing on the part of the exporter.

The Fund deals with three groups of exporters:

Small Exporters - defined as exporters with export revenues of up to
$2m in the base year -- receive assistance of up to $50,000 but not
exceeding 30% of recognized expenses. Funding is given for a variety of
marketing activities: market research, exhibitions abroad, advertising,
catalogues, locating strategic partners abroad, establishing overseas
branches and marketing consultants. Funding is granted in conjunction with
the Export Institute , which includes ongoing consultation with a marketing
expert.

Small to Medium-Size Exporters - defined as exporters with export
revenue of between $2-7m in the base year -- receive up to $200,000
though not exceeding 30% of recognized expenses towards the goals set by
the exporter.

Medium-Size Exporters - defined as exporters with export revenues of
$7-15m in the base year -- receive up to $300,000 though not exceeding
30% of recognized expenses.

The Fund's decisions regarding the granting of assistance are based on
the assessments of the Professional Administrations at the Ministry and the
Fund's marketing analysts.

The Fund operates several guidance and information sub-programs
including: marketing support, information gathering and analysis, etc.
