Diamonds, Precious Stones and Jewelry Administration

The Administration's authority is based on the Regulation of Diamonds Law of 1979.
It's main focus is the diamond sector and, in accordance with the law, it grants
licenses to diamond professionals including: producers, dealers and setters. The
Administration operates a customs office that serves the diamond and precious
stones industry exclusively. All exports and imports of diamonds and precious
stones are supervised by the Administration.

The Administration collects license fees and tariffs on the import of polished
diamonds.

The Administration is responsible for gold and silver standards and advises the
Investment Center on applications for approved enterprise status and the allocation
of land to the diamond, precious stone and jewelry industries. In addition, it
assesses applications from these industries to the Fund for Promoting Overseas
Marketing.

The Administration is also involved with such institutions as: the Diamond Institute, the
Diamond Exchange and the Export Institute.
